Percy couldn't help but laugh again as he pictured himself as the new assistant of the god of the dead — which was just hilarious because there was no way they were going to let him actually get that job. And then as he laughed, the Furies floated into view behind him and were just looking at him with those angry faces that looked like they wanted to kill him for making them laugh. But Percy could not stop laughing — because what else was he supposed to do? — and when he looked up at them again, they were gone and it was only the three Furies in front of him: Fury One: Fury Two: Fury Three: The Furies were standing there waiting for problems, but instead all their faces could do when they saw Percy smiling at them was look back with smiles of their own … except that when Percy looked again, there were only three faces staring back at him: There was nothing stuck in his throat now; it felt like something had been untied from inside him and
